These weeks have honestly been a battle with very little progress. Our concrete sub overbooked. What this translates to is sloppy work, a lot of promises and very little actually being done. They also purchased precast pier footings when our plans called out pad footings. They have made the correction but it cost one of the weeks. In our first two homes this would be the point where I would be losing my mind; however, this time, I hate to say it, but it was expected.
Everyone’s excuse is how busy they are, but the truth is, they are. No sub or contractor wants to turn down work. Too many remember what it was like when there wasn’t any, so they accept and figure they will find a way. What does this mean for owners? It means you have to expect some delays in today’s market. It does not mean you role over and play dead. If you don’t apply pressure to the trades you won’t get anything done, but it is a careful balance.
We are supposed to pour concrete Thursday…. Let’s just say I’m not holding my breath.
