It’s the third week of January and local restaurants are well underway serving up delicious food for the annual event, Newport Beach Restaurant Week.
The holidays are a huge rush time for restaurants, where things get extremely busy. This all halts as the new year comes around and restaurants experience a January slump. The Newport Beach Restaurant Association decided this would be a good time of year to encourage people to go out and try new places and to enjoy old favorites, by making an event out of it—a celebration of the local cuisine community. And in 2006, Newport Beach Restaurant Week was born. It was designed as a way to get the community together to try local restaurants, as well as to boost the local economy during a slow time of year.
Now in its 12th year, Newport Beach Restaurant Week is an annual event that actually lasts 14 days. During this 14-day event, participating restaurants throughout Newport Beach offer special lunch and dinner menus at set prices for all of us to enjoy.
There are no tickets. Simply show up at one of the participating restaurants, order off the special selection of restaurant week menu items, and enjoy your meal in celebration of Newport Beach’s various delicious cuisines. You can rest assured knowing you are getting a good deal, while simultaneously supporting local businesses.
The official start of the event was at the beginning of this week; Monday, January 15th. And it runs through Sunday, January 28th.
